The Application Process

Welcome! We're pleased that you're considering the Department of Computer Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin for the next step in your education. We have tenured and tenure-track faculty across all areas of computer science, and our department is consistently ranked among the top ten CS departments in the country.

Applying for graduate study at UTCS is straightforward, but a bit detailed. In particular, you have to submit applications separately to the University and to the Department. It's important to follow our procedures carefully to make sure your application receives full attention!

The online application process at UTCS is new as of Fall 2006. Please review the admissions information on our graduate studies page.

Within a few days after you submit your University application for graduate admissions using Apply Texas, you will receive email with your "UT EID" (electronic identifier) and password. You should furnish this University EID when you first create your account in the Computer Sciences online application system, since this is the identifier we'll use in our department records to match against your application in the University's graduate admissions office. If there is a delay in receiving your EID (for example, during winter recess), use your Apply Texas number and we will insert your EID later.
